How to "Move" Your Energy

I was chatting with a dear sister about the uncomfortable things that were coming up for me in the days before the full moon. Self-doubt, that feeling of “I’m not doing enough”, and “not getting it right”. And she asked me: “What did you do, how did you move it?”

This is an interesting one, and it’s a bit of a cyclical answer. ..

The first thing we need to learn to accept is that you can’t “move” those challenging emotions/thoughts/etc. STOP trying to get rid of them, release them, or dissolve them. Because nothing can truly be “let go of” while it still has an active hold on you. You can try, but what you resist will persist. It will get bigger, stronger, and more uncomfortable. E-v-e-r-y time.

My answer to her began with: “Well, I sat with it. I sat and looked at it, and asked questions.”

Before letting emotions “go” of something, we need to understand why it’s there. Because there is always a reason, always a purpose. Now, BE careful. Ask questions without the expectation and attachment to an answer. Maybe we’re not supposed to know right away. Maybe it’s meant to unfold. Trust that by simply asking: “What does this mean? Why am I feeling this way? What is this showing me?” You are opening a window and welcoming the possibility of an answer. Then, leave it.

*Note - if you truly can’t understand why you’re feeling the way you’re feeling - sit in meditation. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Bring your hands to your womb and ask about it. The answer could be as simple as - “you’re holding this for your mother.” Or maybe - “you took this on from someone else.” Or even - “the collective is going through something and you’re feeling it.” Allow yourself to be still, and just listen.

Then, take yourself through some physical practices. Breathwork is my go-to. It helps to oxygenate the body, reinvigorate your cells, kill bacteria and foreign organisms, and MOVE emotions (energy in motion).  You can also bounce up and down, give yourself some big hugs as you open your arms out then in, tap your palms all over your body, and stretch out your jaw and tongue (great for those who want to use their voice more). Make sure to take slow inhales and long exhales on SOUND. Even if it’s just a gentle, barely audible vibration like “hummmmmm”.

Once your breath and sound are moving, do some energy practices. Visualise and use your breath to allow rose colored light to flow through your body. Taking super slow and long breaths, inhale up the right side of your body and exhale down the left 3 times. Then do the opposite side. Then, inhale up the backside of your body and exhale down the front 3 times. After that, do the opposite (inhale up the front and exhale down the back).

From there, give your body another good shake or dance to your favourite song and journal for 10 minutes. Drink a ton of water and see where you’re at. How do you feel? Try it out for yourself and let me know what comes up 🙂
